Best New Bike Child Carrier Zigo Leader X2 Leaves Burley in the Dust

The Zigo Leader X2 is a revolution in bike child carriers.  When I bought my Burley D’Lite I had visions of contented kids enjoying the bliss of a bike ride in comfort. After using the Burley D’Lite a few times, I found it to be a mommy panic attack on wheels.  Hitching the trailer to the bike was a pain. Then I found myself spending most bike rides looking over my shoulder to make sure the kids were ok and no one was flying up behind us. My Burley D’Lite has been hanging in the garage so long it is more of an art installation than a practical, fun biking accessory.  I also never really used it as a jogging stroller since it isn’t very practical or attractive.

Along comes the Zigo Leader X2

The Zigo Leader is one of those “why didn’t someone think of this before” baby/kid products that should be at the top of everyone’s baby registry. The Zigo Leader features a child pod which holds 2 kids comfortably and fits on the front of the custom made bike.  Brilliant!  Now the kids are in my line of sight and I can concentrate on enjoying the ride.  Then the ChildPod separates from the bike frame really easily, the front wheels on the ChildPod come down and voila a totally cool stroller for walking or jogging. I am also excited about being able to bike to the grocery store child free and toss my purchases in the child pod.  It is also far easier to take off and stop with the child on the front than hanging behind you in a trailer.  I felt I had greater control over my child’s safety with the ZIgo Leader X2 than with the Burley D’Lite.

The Zigo Leader X2  reminds me of when the Bugaboo first came out years ago with a design so radically different from typical strollers people stared with lust.  If Sex and the City were still on the air, Miranda would be swinging through Central Park on a Zigo Leader X2.

Genius! I’m adding this to the myregistry.com baby registry asap! You’re right, this thing is going to catch on like wildfire just like the Bugaboo did!

I dunno – as a dad who put quite a few miles on a bike/trailer combo in the mid-80s, I’m cool to the notion of a dedicated bike/stroller combo. This is maybe a stroller option, but it is not for the serious cyclist.

Actully, I ride my Zigo X2 with my Son all the time. I have done 20 to 30 mile rides with him in it. We are also planning on doing the NYC 5 boro bike tour in May, 2010. Myself as an avid bike rider/racer. The only limit our Zigo has are my legs and how far my son wants to ride. Just like a regular trailer or a bike. The bonus is I can talk to him and see him when he does start to melt down! No looking over my shoulder. I can even adjust his tilting helmet without stopping. I highly recommend test riding one!
